Sometimes there are quite weird toys out there. A twerking teddy bear for example raised some eyebrows and questions where do we draw the line for toys.
A few video clips started going around the web, showing a few different designs of twerking teddy bears. If you don’t know what twerking is, then you are somewhat lucky. It is a “dance” that singer Miley Cyrus made popular and involves the shaking of one’s buttocks. It is not really something that kids should do, see or even know about.
But that hasn’t stopped parents filming their babies twerking. So some toy companies seem to have decided to take it a step further and make twerking teddy bears.
Sure, they are fun and can make you laugh, but we also think they are not really for kids. As gift for an adult who collects stuffed animals or simply for a laugh – yes, they would work great.
The stores and manufacturers will also probably quickly say these toys aren’t intended for kids. But if that is the case, then they shouldn’t really be in the toy section dedicated for kids. On the other hand… it seems perfectly sociably acceptable to sell toy guns and no one is saying there is anything wrong with that, so a twerking teddy bear might seem the wrong thing to be upset about.
In the end, this is a thing that parents should handle. It is up to them to decide what they want their child to know and do at a young age. It is also up to them do talk to their child and explain such things.
In the end toys are about having fun, but they do also carry a message with them. They can shape a child’s way of thinking and viewing the world, so they should be picked with care.
