While there are a lot of great toys out there, there are also some quite bad. The WATCH organization even has a Top 10 list of the Worst Toys.
World Against Toys Causing Harm, or WATCH, is a non-profit organization and has had these lists for more than four decades. It revealed the latest one at a Boston children’s hospital earlier this week, 10 News reports.
Some of the toys on the list might come as a surprise. Among them are certain fidget spinners and even Mattel’s Wonder Woman sword. They are put on the list over fear of small choking hazard parts from the spinners and potential blunt-force injuries from the sword.
Marvel’s Spider-Man drone is also on the list because of the rotating blades. Also on the list is the Nerf Zombie Strike Deadbolt gun and Heel Wheels.
WATCH has even put a multi-colored instrument for music from wood for babies. Another toy on the list is the Melissa & Doug Brianna doll because of the removable clothing.
Also on the list – Slackers Slackline and even a Disney-themed plush stacking toy Itty Bitty with four rattling rings. For the last one the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall in August. The list also features TOLO’s pull along pony.
And while WATCH says national toy standards are “inadequate” and there have been 15 recalls of nearly 2 million toys for the past year, not everyone feels like that. The major industry group The Toy Association dismissed the list as “needlessly frightening”. It says there are plenty of “rigorous” safety standards in place and says the WATCH group should test toys before placing them on such lists.
