CNN Money reports that Walmart wants to expand into toys and increase its toy selection by 30% in the stores. Furthermore, Walmart plans to increase its online toy selection by 40%.
This means bringing in lots of smaller brands and exclusives. Also, the retailer will hold in-store toy demos, more toy aisles and works on new partnerships, including with YouTube personalities.
The end goal is simple – to make Walmart an even bigger player in the toy market. Walmart is already the world’s largest retailer, so becoming the biggest toy retailer seems feasible.
“We are making even bigger investments in the category to ensure we have the widest selection,” Anne Marie Kehoe, Walmart’s US vice president of toys, said in a news release.
Of course, other retailers are thinking the same. Amazon for example already is the top online toy seller. So, it’s going to be quite the fight for position. This should mean more and better deals for customers. Also they will have more opportunities to shop this coming holiday season as retailers aim to take full advantage of the Toys R Us demise.
