Universal wants to bring in more of its popular animated characters in plush form. So, the company has big plans to expand into stuffed animals.
It now has new partnerships with Posh Paws and Rainbow Designs, ToyNews reports. The two brands will make a slew of plush toys for the UK and Ireland.
“The plush category is often an entry point to our properties for young children. Posh Paws and Rainbow Designs are market leaders and experts in bringing animated characters to life through beautiful, high quality, authentic plush that children love and cherish. We look forward to collaborating with them as we drive forward with our ambitious plans to expand the category”, The firm’s country manager for the UK and Ireland, Hannah Mungo, says.
Posh Paws will make plushies for Despicable Me, Sing and Trolls. It will also make the toys for Trolls World Tour in 2020.
Rainbow Designs will make toys for Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar. It will also make toys from Universal’s classics and new movies like Abominable.
Universal is also working on expanding the toys into more European markets with licenses and manufacturers. Basically, the company is taking a page out of Disney’s book and is going to focus a lot more on merchandise.
