Why is it historic you ask? Toy Story 3 also took the same award in 2011. This makes the Toy Story movies the first franchise to win two best animated feature Oscars.
Toy Story 4 debuted last year. It reunited Woody and Buzz Lightyear with Bo Peep and had some touching moments. It also introduced the hit characters Forky and Duke Kaboom. The movie ended up making more than $1 billion worldwide.
Accepting the award, director Josh Cooley said “we hope your adventures with Woody and Buzz made growing up a little easier.” “Toy Story 4” beat out “Missing Link,” “I Lost My Body,” “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” and “Klaus.”
The movie also had Oscar nominations for best original song. It didn’t win that one, but the best animated feature award is more than enough for the historic achievement.
