The Calgary Hitmen and their fans tried to reclaim the teddy bear toss world record they lost last week. They couldn’t quite get it, but still made history.
Last week the Hershey Bears smashed the previous teddy bear record and got almost 35 000 stuffed animals. Over the past week the Calgary Hitmen were rallying up fans to reclaim the record during their game on Sunday.
Well, the efforts worked out, somewhat. The fans really did manage to surpass the Hitmen’s previous record of 28 815 stuffed animals they set in 2015.
In total the 2018 teddy bear toss got 29 635 stuffed animals. Just short of 30 000 and quite a bit short from the Bear’s record.

Still, it’s a massive deal. Almost 30 000 stuffed animals are now going to help out the local community. The team will donate the toys to 70 agencies like the Salvation Army, the Calgary Food Bank, Hispice Calgary and a lot more.
The Hitmen’s grand total of stuffed animals now sits at 377 583 collected from teddy bear toss events since 1995. Now that’s a looot of plush.
