52-year old Mary Ann Enos from Castle City Mobile Home Park in Newcastle, US is known as the Teddy Bear Lady. She collects stuffed animals for fire victims.
Mary Ann had a friend who collected stuffed animals for young victims of fire, the Auburn Journal reports. Her friend tragically died by fire, so she decided to step up.
She started gathering stuffed animals for donations. And now her neighbors call her the “Teddy Bear Lady”.
She now begins the latest initiative of gathering teddy bears and stuffies for the Newcastle Fire Department. The firefighters then keep the toys and give them to children during the holidays. Also they have stuffies in their trucks to give to kids when disaster strikes.
The Newcastle fire department has collected stuffed animals for 11 years. Enos participates for the last several years. Each year she brings six or seven huge bags filled with toys.
This years she plans to do the same. She says she wants to continue to collect stuffed animals for as long as she can. You can also help out. For Newcastle Fire Protection District, you can drop off new or gently-used stuffed animals at 1588 Lisa Drive in Newcastle, or contact Mary Ann Enos for questions: 916-663-1564.
CalFire participates in Toys for Tots during the holidays and toys may be dropped off at the local CalFire headquarters near Bowman on Lincoln Way or Station near Thunder Valley casino.
