Stuffed animals are going to help the Clovis Police Department to re-launch its K-9 unit. The stuffies help raise enough money for the project.
As part of the fundraising, the department is selling cute toy police dogs. They are selling for $20 a pop and have proven to be very popular.
Officers went to the Clovis Big Hat Days event this weekend and set up a booth to sell the toys. And the stuffies were so popular, the officers sold them all by lunch on Saturday.
During the rest of the weekend the officers accepted pre-orders for the next batch of K-9 stuffed dogs. And they got more than 500!
People even donated additional money for the revival of the K-9 unit. In the end, the officers raised about $22 000 in sales and donations. Additionally, private donors have already helped the department to purchase two puppies which will be trained to become K-9 officers.
The ClovisPoliceFoundation is handling the efforts. The police department wants a total of five police dogs. This will need a total of $75 000 to cover the costs to train and provide all needed care for the dogs.
