Sphero is continuing to make strides in the world of interactive toys. The company has now introduced a cool new Spider-Man toy with lots of features.
The new Spider-Man action figure by Sphero and Marvel can do a lot of “hero stuff”. It looks like a bigger, more rounded version of a Funko POP vinyl figure, but can do a lot more.
It has a companion app which you can load on your smartphone. But you can also interact with Spidey by voice and touch.
For example, double tap his chest logo and Spidey will tell you the time. He can also tell you a joke or a story. And there games you can play together.
What’s more, the Spider-Man action figure has motion sensor. This means it can react when someone passes by. You can also use the toy for an alarm clock and even as a room guardian.
By using the app, you can do even more. For example, you could embark on different missions, fight some of his biggest foes and even create an alter ego. The interactive Spider-Man action figure can learn and adapt to your decisions. Sphero will also add more missions, villains and other updates via WiFi. Also, the figure’s eyes move and mimic emotions just like the actual new Spider-Man in Homecoming.
“[His] reactions and signature snarky attitude are sure to keep you on your toes. Entertainment is Spidey’s (other) super power,” according to the manufacturer. “The tech in this interactive, immersive, and intellectual Spidey empowers you to be his heroic ally.”
The figure is 1.5 lbs in weight and 8.5 inches tall. It’s pretty much poised to follow on the huge success and interest the BB-8 droid toy from Star Wars which was more expensive. But it was also an incredible hit and put the company on the map. The new Spider-Man by Sphero will cost a lot less – $149.99 and it’s on sale right now.
Sphero is also now selling the Ultimate Lightning McQueen racer from Cars. This one will set you back $300. But it’s also a lot bigger and has animated eyes and mouth. And even the suspension can mimic some emotions just like the cars in the movie.
So, it’s definitely a great time to be a movie fan and a collector of innovative and interactive toys. You know what it would really be cool? If one day these Sphero action figures and robots can actually connect to each other. Imagine the imaginative, creative play you could have by combining say BB-8, McQueen and Spider-Man in a team.
