Someone bought $1 million in toys from a closing Toys R Us and more news about the retailer

Someone bought $1 million in toys from a closing Toys R Us and more news about the retailerAs Toys R Us was closing down in the US, it offered huge discounts on many toys. Someone took that to heart and bought up $1 million worth of toys!

But it’s not just because that someone really wants toys or plans to resell them for a profit. There’s a much more noble goal here, WSB Radio reported via WNCN-TV.

The event occurred at the Toys R Us store in Raleigh, North Carolina this week. The person came and basically bought everything that was available in the store for $1 million.

Unsurprisingly, the buyer wanted to remain anonymous. The only thing that the person said is that the toys are for a future donation. Talk about generosity!

As you could imagine, this meant that no one else could buy anything from the store after that as it was completely sold out. But customers were more than pleased when they heard why.

“I like the idea of donating the toys. That’s pretty rad,” said customer Dan Paulson.

“Oh, that’s so nice. I’m happy to hear that,” said Erin Sampson who’d come to the store with a friend looking for last minute deals.

“Wow. Awesome man,” said customer George House.

“Oh wow, that’s nice,” said Vivian Smith who showed up and found the doors locked with a closed sign on the glass.

In other Toys R Us related news, the stores in Canada are going to remain opened. They have a new owner – Fairfax Financial Holdings. They paid $300 million for all 82 Canadian Toys R Us stores.
