After the big success of Cars, many would be surprised, there aren’t many similar movies out. Well, Mattel wants to change that with a Hot Wheels live-action movie.
As a result, Mattel is partnering with Warner Bros to develop the Hot Wheels movie. It’s Mattel’s second feature-film after announcing Barbie last year.
Mattel hasn’t yet revealed plans for the movie. It’s also not saying a potential release date.
“We are excited to bring the thrill of a Hot Wheels live-action feature film to the big screen in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures. Ynon Kreiz, Mattel’s chairman and CEO, said to ToyNews. “Mattel Films has great momentum as it continues to execute on our commitment to bring global audiences new ways to experience the brands they love as we transform Mattel into an IP-driven, high-performing toy company.”
Hot Wheels is one of the most famous toy brands. Last year it celebrated 50 years on the market. On average Hot Wheels sells about 500 million toy cars every year and a total of more than six billion during its entire history. It’s only fitting to also have a movie.
