The new Ghostbusters movie will hit the cinemas in July 2016 and the master toy partner has already been chosen – Mattel. The company is already working on the toys.
Mattel will be the global master toy licensee for the Ghostbusters reboot. This means that the toys will be either designed and made by Mattel or licensed and approved by the toy conglomerate.
“Of the top film events of the coming year this is possibly the one that has the highest levels of awareness and anticipation – from both filmgoers and the licensing community. We’re looking forward enormously to bringing the new Ghostbusters to a waiting world and delighted that Rocket, with its excellent work on the Classic brand, will be building the licensing campaign for the new brand in the UK and Ireland,” said Mark Caplan, SVP, global consumer products, Sony Pictures Entertainment to ToyNews.
Mattel is already working on new toys for the franchise. Little is still known despite the obvious – new action figures, ghosts and all kinds of additional accessories and toys for all tastes and ages. Given that LEGO has had huge success with its Ghostbusters play sets, it is pretty much guaranteed that the interest for the various toys will also be huge.
The anticipation and excitement for the new Ghostbusters franchise is definitely quite big. The movie is directed by Paul Feig and this time will feature an all-female team. Starring in the Ghostbusters reboot will be Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. The movie will also feature an appearance from the original Ghostbusters’ star – Bill Murray. It’s unclear what his role will be or it could be just a cameo.
