LEGO unveils new "stay at home dad" MinifigureLEGO continues to expand its Minifigures portfolio with new, more socially-oriented ideas. Now the company is adding a new “stay at home dad” Minifigure.

A few weeks ago LEGO added its first ever Minifigure of a disabled person. Now it is adding a “stay at home dad” minifigure with a stroller and a baby.

This is LEGO’s way of representing modern society better in its toys and play sets. Dressed in jeans and a red checked shirt, the figure sports a beard and comes with a pram and baby bottle. The toy is part of an upcoming LEGO City set to be released in the summer, and can be paired with a new figure of a mother wearing a smart work outfit.

“We need to stay in tune with the world around us. “We aren’t responding to demand from anyone. We are trying to portray the world around us and listen to our consumer base”, Soren Torp Laursen, president of LEGO Systems, told Fortune magazine.

The new stay-at-home dad figure has been well received by the fans, especially the real stay at home dads. Twitter user Chris Bernholdt tweeting: “The @LEGO_Group making me proud to be a #LegoDad by releasing. a SAHD minifig complete w/ working mom #dad2summit.”

LEGO’s initiatives show that good and sensible toys can indeed represent the modern reality and still be fun and educational. It is good to see more and more companies going this route and seeing it only improves their products.
