LEGO has a pretty big fan base and for a good reason. Recent survey amongst toy industry experts has named LEGO the top toy of all time ahead of Scrabble.

The survey has been done by The Inventors Workshop and quizzed 2000 toy industry expert. Half of the participants have responded that LEGO is their top children’s toy of all time, ToyNews reports. The majority of respondents say that the number one ingredient for a successful toy is to be fun.

The top 10 list of the best toys of all time also shows something interesting. All of the toys are from the 80s and well before that. Does this mean that modern toys can’t catch the attention and imagination of children for long enough? Maybe. But most toys today are still based on the ones in the top 20 list, so it is not surprising to see their original inspirations take the top spots.

“When you look at the ten ingredients that combine to create the ultimate recipe for toy success, you can see exactly why LEGO was voted the best toy in history. The LEGO brick is such a simple concept but it incorporates every single one of those ten ingredients and is precisely why children (and grown-ups) have been enjoying – and continue to enjoy – playing with LEGO for more than six decades”, says Billy Langsworthy, Inventors Workshop conference director.

And here is the top 20 toys of all time list:
