Despite Star Wars being the huge frenzy that it is, it can’t beat some toys. The LEGO Minifigures for example are the best selling toys in the UK for 2015!
Toy News reports that the LEGO Minifigures and Flair’s Shopkins are the two best selling toys in Great Britain in 2015. Overall toy sales in the country have increased almost five per cent and collectables are the most sought after type of toys overall.
Action figures and accessories have 19% rise in sales. The good news? Stuffed animals come in second with 13% increase. This means more and more people are agreeing that stuffed animals and plush toys are simply awesome. They also get bonus points if they are part of a series so people can collect them all. Building sets score a 12% increase.
The data comes from The NPD group and covers the period from January to December 6th 2015. “2015 has been a strong year for the British toy market to date and the NPD group expects the year to finish up five per cent after similar increase in 2014. Branded and licensed toys with traditional play patterns have been the key drivers behind the market performance, with collectable toys topping the charts” says Frederique Tutt, global toy industry analyst with The NPD Group to Toy News.
LEGO lands two top selling toys in the top 10 – the Minifigures at number one and the Disney Frozen Elsa Sparkling Ice Castle. Pie Face, which was a viral toy for a while, is coming in at eight place.
It is a good time for toys and they are managing to fight back successfully towards computers and video games which did hurt toy sales a lot. But parents and kids around the world start to figure out again that video games can’t replace the joy from traditional toys. They are a different type of fun that can co-exist with toys, but it can’t simply replace them. So, yay, now excuse us as we go play with our stuffed animals.
