Today is a special day. It’s Garfield’s 41th birthday. At least the official one. Like many things Garfield, his birthday is also a bit of a crazy thing.

Garfield is one of the most popular comic book characters in the world and is used in more than 2500 publications in the world. As a result, it’s the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip.

Garfield has also had movies, but his origins are in the newspaper comic strips. Jim Davis created Garfield after his original comic strips with bugs weren’t going well. He needed a better character to showcase his comedic timing and wittiness.

As a result, Garfield was born. The comic book on June 19, 1979 claimed that it’s his first birthday. Although Garfield has always been depicted as a grown cat. So, maybe that’s the strip’s first birthday?

Fans have gotten used to celebrating June 19 as Garfield’s birthday anyway. Even if his actual age isn’t known.

His owner in the strips, Jon Arbuckle, has a birthday on July 28, although his age isn’t known. And while Garfield’s past may be a bit difficult to know, one thing is certain, he’s a global favorite.

Garfield’s merchandise earns between $750 million and $1 billion every year. There are other income streams from licensing, movies, animated series and so on.

Oh, an who can forget a great fact – Garfield loves teddy bears as well. He loves his teddy bear Pooky and protects him from everyone.
