Funko has been on a roll and expanded beyond its popular POP vinyl figures. Now the company plans to open a huge toy store in the heart of Hollywood, CNN reports.
It makes perfect sense. Funko’s main popularity is that the company focuses on Hollywood properties. The POP vinyl figures range covers hundreds of Hollywood’s iconic characters over the years.
So, the company wants to give fans what they want. And they want more. As a result, it’s planning to open a nearly 40 000 square-foot store this year.
The new Funko store will be on Hollywood Boulevard, relatively close to the TCL Chinese Theatre. It will be next to a Shake Shack and SoulCycle.
Currently Funko has a smaller store at its HQ in Everett. It’s performing above expectations, which gives the company confidence the Hollywood store will also do quite well. It will target both local residents and tourists.
Funko already has plans for the big store. It will feature life-size POPs and a toy version of the Batmobile. The company wants to make the store cool enough to encourage people to come to it often. It aims to have it ready by Halloween. And if it’s successful, you can expect more Funko stores in other popular tourist cities like Las Vegas, Tokyo, London and others.
