Disney is recalling one of its new Toy Story 4 toys due to a choking hazard. The toy in question is the plush Forky 11 over its plastic googly eyes.
The recall comes from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. The googly eyes are plastic and glued onto the plush, so they can come off. “Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and return it to any Disney Store retail location, Walt Disney World, or Disneyland Resort theme park retail store location for a full refund,” the U.S. government agency says in a statement.
USCPSC says that around 80 000 Forky plush toys were sold in the US. Another 650 are sold in Canada, which shows where Forky was quite popular.
The good news – there are no reported injuries. The 11-inch tall plush Forky will be discontinued. Fans of the quirky character will have to seek alternatives and Disney has plenty. And we expect that there will also be a new plush Forky in the near future.
Still, it’s a bit surprising that Disney didn’t see that coming. Having glued on plastic pieces on a plush toy is never a good idea. That’s why it’s better for them to be sewn on. Yes, you will lose the quirky googly look of Forky, but the toy will be safer.
