After the huge success of Toy Story 4 in the cinemas, it seemed like it was a great farewell to the beloved franchise. Or was it? Maybe it’s coming back?
As you can expect, fans want more. And rumors about Toy Story 5 are already starting to gain steam. And that’s just about a year after Toy Story 4 debuted.
So far, history teaches us that Pixar takes their sweet time when it comes to Toy Story and confirming any moves for the franchise. The gap between Toy Story 3 and 4 was nine years. And there were 11 years between Toy Story 2 and 3.
Actor Tim Allen, who is the voice of Buzz Lightyear, has famously said years ago that he’s supporting the idea of five movies. The last that we’ve heard from Pixar about Toy Story 5 is that the movie is not on the cards and Toy Story 4 is envisioned to be the last one.
But, the same was said about Toy Story 3, as well. “Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don’t make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on,” Pixar President Jim Morris told EW last year.
So, this actually leaves the door open for Toy Story 5. The movie could happen if there’s a decent enough plot and idea that everyone involved like and approve. Coming up with such an idea though could once again take years and years. And it may never actually materialize if the ideas aren’t up to par. So, this means that we will have to get used to a steady stream of Toy Story 5 rumors without confirmation or comments for a long time ahead.
