The new dolls take inspiration from Star Wars: A New Hope, Mattel says. They are three, paying homage to the main characters. And they are only for collectors.
The new line has the name “Star Wars x Barbie”. The dolls rock outfits which take cues from the original concept artwork for “A New Hope”.
This line up is already up for pre-order on Amazon and, no surprise, it jumped immediately in the top 20. They could sell out quite quick, despite costing $100 each.
That’s quite a lot for a brand new Barbie doll, for sure. But then again, has there even been such a glamorous collaboration between two iconic brands?
“The unique aspects of this come from the collaboration of two unique icons that truly stand alone,” Barbie designer Robert Best said to TheForce. “Barbie and Star Wars are cultural phenomena like no others and so it’s exciting to bring these two worlds together. I also think it might be an unexpected collaboration and I love that.”
If you want these dolls, you better be quick. They go on sale on November 18, but judging from the pre-order interest, they will go quite fast.
