Angry Birds will be getting their own movie and trailerThe popular mobile game Angry Birds will be turned into an animated movie. Rovio and Sony have even unveiled the first trailer for the flick.

Angry Birds is one of the world’s most popular mobile games. It has been around since 2010 and has had 14 sequels and spin-offs. It is developed by a company called Rovio which over the years has managed to bank on the popular game with toys, stuffed animals, comic books, clothes even candy and soda.

Naturally, the popularity has faded a bit over time, but it is still going quite strong. Strong enough to warrant the making of an animated movie featuring a celebrity cast.

The movie is not following a game story because, well, there isn’t any. What it tries to do is give us a story behind the most popular game characters and what led to the, shall we say, conflict, with the pigs.

Here is what Rovio and Sony are telling about the movie so far:

The movie takes us to an island populated entirely by happy, flightless birds – or almost entirely. In this paradise, Red (Jason Sudeikis, We’re the Millers, Horrible Bosses), a bird with a temper problem, speedy Chuck (Josh Gad in his first animated role since Frozen), and the volatile Bomb (Danny McBride, This is the End, Eastbound and Down) have always been outsiders. But when the island is visited by mysterious green piggies, it’s up to these unlikely outcasts to figure out what the pigs are up to.

The movie is set to debut on May 20. 2016. It’s first trailer is already ready, though and you can check it out below. So far the response it is that there might be interest in the movie, especially if it turns out to be funny and… explosive like the game.

One thing is for sure. If the movie turns out to be successful, there will be a whole new plethora of toys and stuffed animals to collect.
